【Important Announcement No.2】Current Outbreak of Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)

An outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a novel (new) coronavirus (named “2019-nCoV”) that was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China continues to expand.
Governments in the world including Japan have proceeded the procedures on immigration control and others more seriously and strictly.
Please make your best efforts to prevent infection by washing your hands and wearing a mask.

Additionally, please refrain from traveling to China to start the University life in April in safety.
The Government of Japan has raised the danger level of infectious diseases throughout China to Level 2 since January 31, 2020, and recommends not to go to China unless otherwise urgently required. For the time being since February 1, 2020, the Government prohibited foreign residents who have stayed in the Hubei Province within the past 14 days and passport holders issued by the Hubei Province from entering Japan.

Moreover, some countries including the United States have refused people from other countries, who have traveled to China, to enter their countries. Then the Government of Japan may strictly follow the procedures of those countries.

In addition to the above procedure of the Government, Osaka University of Tourism prohibits the students who have entered or returned from China from commuting to the university for 14 days after entering Japan. If the students are traveling to China at present, the relevant students may not be able to attend at the new semester’s orientation or classes. Please refrain from traveling to China to start the new semester without delay.

Some students may have planned to go home or travel outside of Japan during the spring holidays. The WHO however, declared the current outbreak of novel coronavirus as “a global health emergency.” Osaka University of Tourism requests the students to be more careful to do anything.

Yoshiharu Yamada, Acting President
Osaka University of Tourism
